Some of the things you will see and do on a typical day in Etruria

Day 2 - The Lake

Nets drying on the lakeshore at Marta

Lake Bolsena

Europe's biggest (and cleanest) lake of volcanic origin  and it is our favourite spot for explaining the basics of photography to beginners. However the extraordinary variety of scenery around the lake lends itself to photographers of all levels. We start at 9,00 (earlier if there is the promise of an interesting dawn) at Bisentium, a promontory and ancient Etruscan site  with fine views of the lake, its islands, the surrounding hills and the distant Apennines.

 above Marta

We are based in Marta,a thriving fishing village on the lake shore with picturesque, winding, mediaeval streets. The shoreline is festooned with fishing nets and colourful fishing boats, ideal subjects for explaining concepts such as composition and depth of field. The fishermen too lend themselves willingly to explanations about portraiture. Picnic lunch on the lakeside outside Capodimonte. Swimming and relaxation or back to the hotel for siesta. Late afternoon: the wild lakeshore, the reeds, the olive groves, vines, the wildlife, ruins - classic landscape photography. Evening up in the hills above Lake Bolsena to Grotte di Castro (below)

to catch the evening light, the hill town in the foreground, the lake and the setting sun in the background.

Day 3 - Vulci and the Sea
